The Mission of the LahainaTown Action Committee is to foster, promote, maintain and encourage the historical, social, commercial and cultural vitality of Lahaina.

Description and History

Action is and apt middle name for the LahainaTown Action Committee. Formed as a volunteer organization in 1988 to preserve the historic integrity, re-kindle the small town atmosphere and promote the uniqueness of Lahaina, the LahainaTown Action Committee (LAC) has since become a vigorous, visible organization with it's own full time staff. The LAC, supported by membership dues, event revenue, and product sales actively responds to the cultural, social and economic needs of the community of Lahaina.

LahainaTown Action Committee was originally organized to fight the closure of the Front Street bridge as a standing committee of the West Maui Taxpayers Association. On May 24th 1993 LAC incorporated and became its own 401(c)4 non profit corporation.

The staff consists of an Executive Director (full-time), an Assistant to the Director (part-time) and a Visitor Center Staff (part -time). The staff oversees the coordination of the events, and the day to day operations of the corporation and the Visitor Center. The Board of Directors, a volunteer group of representatives from the business and residential community, sets the policy and directions for the organization.

LAC conducts 4 major events each year and several smaller ones.. LAC has a track record of producing well organized, well publicized, highly visible events which are enthusiastically attended by both visitors and local residents. The events create national and international exposure for Lahaina. In addition, LAC runs the Lahaina Visitor Center which is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

LahainaTown Action Committee acts as a liaison between the community and the visitors. The Lahaina Visitor Center fields complaints, answers questions, and tracks down information for visitors on a daily basis. LAC has a reputation for getting the job done and has earned the respect of the community for all its hard work on their behalf.
